Convert HEIC to PNG
Turn iPhone photos into PNG files with crisp edges and transparency.
Runs on your device. Your files are never stored.
Short answer
To convert HEIC to PNG, add your files to FileFleet, adjust the quality if you like, and download the PNG files, zipped if there are several. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. In our test, a 2400 × 1350 photo went from 160 KB to 1.54 MB as PNG.

HEIC vs PNG
PNG keeps every pixel of the decoded photo, which helps if you plan to edit it heavily. The catch is size: a photo saved as PNG is many times larger than the HEIC.
| Feature | HEIC | PNG |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | HEIF image with HEVC compression | Portable Network Graphics |
| Introduced | 2017 on iPhone | 1996 |
| Compression | Lossy | Lossless |
| Transparency | Supported, rarely used | Yes |
| Animation | Supported, rarely used | No (the APNG variant is rarely used) |
| Best for | Storing iPhone photos in about half the space of JPG | Screenshots, logos, text and graphics with sharp edges |
| Opens in | Apple devices; Windows needs an extension; most websites don’t accept it | Every computer, phone, app and website |
What happens to file size
| Test image | HEIC | PNG | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| A 2400 × 1350 photo | 160 KB | 1.54 MB | 10× larger |
| A 1440 × 860 website screenshot | 58 KB | 211 KB | 4× larger |
About the two formats
HEIC
HEIC is the format iPhones save photos in by default. It keeps photos small, but many computers, websites and forms still can’t open it.
PNG
PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no quality loss, and supports transparent backgrounds. That makes it ideal for graphics and screenshots, but photos saved as PNG are very large.
How to convert HEIC to PNG
- 1Add your HEIC files.
- 2Adjust the quality if you like.
- 3Download the PNG files.
Questions
Do my files get uploaded?
No. HEIC to PNG runs entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Close the tab and they're gone.
Is it really free?
Yes. No account, no daily limits and no watermark on your files.
Is HEIC to PNG lossless?
The PNG stores the photo exactly as decoded, with no further loss. The original HEIC was already compressed, so nothing beyond that can be recovered.
